Broadway Cinema

Letchworth’s four-screen independent cinema, showing the latest blockbuster films every week. Offering a state-of-the-art cinematic experience, housed in a grand 1930s Art Deco building.

The cinema opened 16 August 1936, to a black-tie gala screening of ‘Follow the Fleet’ starring Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. The auditorium, with its sumptuous interiors, reached its 1,400 capacity leaving many more turned away at the door.

Since its opening, Broadway Cinema has undergone four major refurbishments, the first in 1955, allowing the cinema to show ‘new’ widescreen films, the installation of digital projection, meaning a greater variety of productions can be shown as well as broadcasting live events and in 2017 a conversion of Screen 1 to a joint theatre space allowing theatre productions as well as cinema screenings..
