Letchworth Garden City - Earth Day, 17 July 2010

Earth Day 2010Environmental family fun

Saturday 17 July, saw Letchworth Garden City host its first Earth Day, celebrating all things environmental. The event featured stalls from organisations such as the Shark Trust, HydroActive, North Hertfordshire Beekeepers, Transition Town Letchworth and many more.

There was face painting and a treasure hunt to keep the kids entertained, plus photo opportunities 'in front of shark infested waters'. A flashback to 'seaside picture boards', families had great fun posing with the sharks, wearing masks and snorkels.

The treasure hunt runs until the 31 July 2010, so if you missed Saturday but want to take part, head down to Tuscany Fine Art at Unit 10, 50 Leys Avenue to pick up an entry form - All correct entries will be entered into a free prize draw to win an underwater camera.

As visitors browsed the environmental and farmers' market stalls they were treated to some fabulous live music at the hands of world folk sensation Randolph Matthews, The Winter School and Pete Woodroffe.

Organised by Denise Poynter of Tuscany Fine Art with Stevenage Underwater Photographic Society in support of its education programme and month-long ‘A Global Walk Underwater’ exhibition at Letchworth Arts Centre in The Arcade. The event’s sponsors include Heritage Lottery and Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation.
